Excursions in the area
The Turquoise Coast is blessed with a stunning scenery of pine
clad mountains,a beautiful coastline and lovely beaches.The climate is
fantastic, with balmy springs and autumns of around 24 C, summers of around 30 C
or more, and winter temperatures rarely falling below 10 C. There is practically
wall to wall sunshine from April through to November. june and September are a
particularly lovely to visit when the temperatures are not at the extrme highs,
September having the edge as the sea has nicely warmed up. Calis has a pleasant
breeze off the sea through summer .
There are numerous sites, ancient, cultural and natural to visit in the region.
OLU DENIZ
Otherwise known as The Blue agoon. Here there is a beautiful beach and an
attractive resort with beach side bars and resteraunts. There are many
watersports on the beach here. Children will love the shallow water of the
lagoon and chasing shoals of fish. Olu Deniz is only 30 minutes on the bus from
Fethiye.
KAYAKOY VILLAGE
This is a 14th century village that until 1922 housed Greek occupants. However
after the Turkish government signed a 'population exchange' agreement with
Greece the occupants left leaving it deserted. Not far away and worth a visit.
LYCIAN
TOMBS
These tombs were excavated into the natural rock in the fourth century BC during
the Lycian Period. The most famous of them is the tomb of Amyntas. This is also
the best preserved tomb of the area. ITs name comes from the inscription on its
side: "Amyntou tou Ermagiou", which sounds in English "Amyntas, son of Hermagios"
SAKLIKENT GORGE
an icy cold river rushes down a 300 metre gorge for 18 kms. This is a beautiful
refuge on a hot summer day where you enjoy a picnic or eat at one of the rustic
resteraunts overhanging the river. You can also take an exilerating rubber tube
ride down the river.
DALYAN MUD BATHS
Dalyan has thermal springs containing many minerals as well as mud baths. Dalyan
has many therapeutic hot springs. The waters are believed to cure rheumatism,
skin, liver, spleen and bowel complaints, as well as being beneficial for
nervous and digestive disorders. The Sultaniye Thermal Bath which is famous in
Turkey, the water is 40 degrees Centigrade. The mud baths are also said to
remedy rheumatism as well as cleanse and beautify the skin. Once you have
covered yourself in the mud, wait for a few minutes to dry it. You then clean
yourself in the sulphur pool. Mud bath is also at a temperature of 40 degrees. A
must for a day trip.
GOCEK
This lovely village is 30 km away from Fethiye. Gocek is a picturesque fishing
village, which has become an important centre for the yachting/sailing set. You
can relax here and enjoy a lunch in one of the many restaurants and bars. You
can also visit the market on Sundays. To get there either by Dolmus from Fethiye
or try one of the boats in Fet hiye harbour.
12 ISLAND BOAT TOUR
These famous boat tours leave from Fethiye harbour and takes you around the bay
of Fethiye. They moor as often as possible so that you can explore the ruins
found on many of Fethiye's bays & islands. Swim, top up that tan or snorkel in
the water. This is an excellent day trip and can be booked through most agencies
or visit the harbour in Fethiye and book directly. Most tours leave at 10 a.m.
and get back about 6p.m. A recent trip we took cost only £10 each and included a
generous lunch.There are many boats doing these trips to choose from.
PARAGLIDING
Take a trip up Babadag mountain and paraglide off in tandem over beautiful Olu
Deniz. This exhilerating experience can last for up to 50 minutes.This
expereience can be booked through many agencies in the area.
TURKISH BATHS
Visit a Haman and enjoy the sauna before having a soap massage lying on a marble
slab. Your skin will be totally revitalised!
SCUBA DIVING
There are several companies that can take you diving and most are situated on
the harbour in Fethiye. This is one for all the family even if you don't dive,
snorkels and fins are provided for all members of the family to join in.
CANOE SAFARI
Spend a day canoeing down the Xanthos River, through Patara National Park, an
area of outstanding natural beauty. The river flows from the mountain springs
that emerge from the Saklikent Gorge and ends at Patara. Experienced
professional guides will help you get the most from your day. This adventure can
be booked in Fethiye.
THE LYCIAN WAY
For the energetic. The Lycian Way is a series of connected trekking routes that
has been rated by The Sunday Times as one of the 10 best walks in the world. The
routes take you through cool pine and cedar forests and traditional mountain
villages where life has largely remained unchanged for centuries. Transfers and
packed lunches are provided.
HORSE RIDING
This is a fantastic way to see the scenery, history and wildlife in this
stunning area. This again can be booked through the tourist trip agencies.
JEEP SAFARI
A good way to visit historical sites and drive through the beautiful Taurus
Mountains. The route may take you towards Saklikent, the hidden canyon and
through the pine and cedar forests. After lunch (usually a buffet) the route
will follow the river Xanthos to explore the Lycian Capital before heading off
to Patara and Turkeys longest sandy beach where you can enjoy a swim or soak up
the sun. Booked through most tour agents in Hisaronu or Fethiye.
WHITE WATER RAFTING
For the more adventurous the Dalaman river will lead you on an unforgettable fun
filled day, with it's white waters and natural beauty. The trips generally begin
at the White Bridge along the cool rivers.
DALYAN
You can spend another day in Dalyan, which is about 1 hour from Fethiye. As soon
as you reach Dalyan, First stop is the mud-bath (already mentioned). After that,
you can go back to town centre and have lunch. After lunch, your boat will take
you to the Iztuzu Beach (The Turtle Beach). This beach is one of the rare
beaches of the world where the Marine Turtles come and nest. Also the Carian
Rock Tombs which welcomes you as you enter the town, are really amazing .
SKIING
Something for the future.
A new ski resort is being built on Mount Eren, an hour's car journey from
Fethiye. Once the Mount Eren sky centre will be finished, Fethiye will be ready
for winter tourism as well.
